Berkeley Rose Garden/Gourmet Ghetto Neighborhood
Just a stone's throw from the UC Berkeley's North Campus, you'll find Berkeley’s Rose Garden neighborhood, which also borders the famed Gourmet Ghetto. The Rose Garden itself is considered by many to be the finest rose garden in Northern California. It is home to over 3,000 rose bushes and 250 varieties of roses, as as well as several tennis courts. And it has some of the most breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge in the East Bay.
Additionally, the neighborhood also has two other cherished and beautiful Berkeley Parks: Codornices Park and Live Oak Park, both with spring-fed streams and waterfalls, redwood groves and trails. Not known to many is Codornices Park "Hidden Waterfall, which is surrounded by quiet areas perfect for meditation.
Even with its natural surroundings, this neighborhood is deceptively close to Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto, where Berkeley's famed Chez Panisse Restaurant, as well as many other restaurants have made their home... from Cheese Board pizza to Saul's Delicatessan.
Homes in the area are Berkeley style, with many 1920's Mediterraneans, brown-shingle Craftsman, California bungalows, as well as a number of Bernard Maybeck's architectural masterpieces.
